Appearance
Talia is a broad-shouldered woman weathered into the shape of the lake itself. Her hands are thick with old rope burns, her left index finger ends one joint short, and her skin carries a permanent sheen of fish oil no matter how often she scrubs. She moves with a rolling fisher's balance, knees loose and feet planted wide, as if every floor might suddenly become a rocking deck. Her patched coat smells of cedar smoke, wet wool, and brine. The unexpected contradiction is her face: stern at rest, almost severe, yet when she smiles she reveals a tiny gold tooth shaped like a carp, making her look for one brief moment like a delighted child.
“Low, husky, and economical. Talia speaks in short sentences when working, uses rough humor with friends, and becomes unexpectedly lyrical when describing currents, storms, or fish.”

Distinguishing Features
Missing tip of the left index finger
Tiny gold carp tooth visible when she smiles
A pale rope-burn scar crossing both palms
One eyebrow split by an old hook wound
Always carries the smell of cedar smoke and lake water
Voice
“A low, weather-roughened contralto with a dry edge, like a rope dragged over a dock post. When frightened, she speaks more softly instead of raising her voice.”
Clothing
A faded blue wool coat patched with sailcloth, knee-high rubberized boots, a leather apron stiff with salt, fingerless gloves, and a red scarf inherited from her mother. Small fish bones are stitched into the coat hem as warding charms.
Body Language
Talia leans slightly forward when listening, as though trying to hear through wind and water. She hooks her missing finger around straps instead of gripping them, taps wet surfaces before stepping, and turns her shoulders sideways when someone mentions her daughter.
