Elden Harrow
Commoner and Councilor
Elden Harrow
Species
Human
Appearance
Elden Harrow is a cheerful, heavyset human with a broad belly, thick shoulders, and forearms corded from decades of turning grain and wrestling sacks. His hands are permanently red from millstone dust, winter cracking, and the iron-rich water of Hillward's stream. Flour clings to the dark hair on his arms like frost. He walks with a rolling, careful gait, as though every floorboard might conceal a loose gear, yet his sudden movements are startlingly quick. His round face usually carries an open smile, but one side of his mouth pulls slightly downward from an old injury. The unexpected contradiction is that his clothes are always meticulously brushed and mended, while his fingernails remain permanently black with mill grease. He leaves behind the mingled impression of warm bread, rain-soaked wool, and something faintly metallic.
“Warm, rhythmic, and conversational, with a rural Hillward accent. Elden speaks as though every sentence is being offered across a kitchen table.”

Distinguishing Features
A silver button sewn onto every coat he owns
Permanently red, roughened hands dusted with flour
A crooked smile caused by an old mill accident
A small crescent scar beneath his right ear
The habit of smelling grain before accepting it from anyone
Voice
“A warm baritone with a grainy edge, like a friendly song heard through a half-open barn door. It carries easily over machinery and becomes remarkably commanding when he calls for order.”
Clothing
A succession of brown, ochre, and moss-green wool coats, each carefully patched and each bearing one polished silver button sewn near the heart. Beneath them he wears a linen shirt, a flour-stained leather apron, thick trousers, and reinforced work boots. He carries a red scarf from his late wife's button-making stall, though he claims it is merely practical.
Body Language
Elden keeps his palms visible and his shoulders relaxed during conversation. He leans forward when listening, pats people on the arm when reassuring them, and rubs his left thumb across the nearest silver button whenever someone mentions Tessa, missing grain, or the old tunnels. In danger, his smile disappears and his feet spread into the stable stance of a man preparing to hold a collapsing beam.
