Sergeant Cedric Thornfield
Gladewatch Sergeant
Sergeant Cedric Thornfield
Species
Human
Appearance
Cedric is a weathered human man with a broad, wind-burned face, a crooked nose that healed badly, and a copper beard braided into three short forks. His beard rings are made from melted caravan bells, each one carrying a tiny dent from a different journey. He moves with the economical stiffness of someone whose old injuries ache in cold weather, yet his hands remain quick and unexpectedly gentle when calming frightened horses or children. His red scarf is faded at the edges, soft from years of washing, and worn in every season, even during summer heat. The contradictory impression he leaves is of a hard-bitten soldier who smells faintly of rose soap and always notices when someone has gone hungry.
“His voice is low, dry, and hoarse from years of shouting over wagon wheels and rain. He speaks clearly, rarely wastes words, and gives directions with the exacting rhythm of a drill command.”

Distinguishing Features
Crooked, flattened nose from a caravan ambush.
Three copper rings braided into his beard, each made from a ruined caravan bell.
Faded red scarf worn regardless of season.
A pale rope-burn scar around his left wrist.
A habit of smelling faintly of rose soap despite his muddy profession.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone with clipped military diction, softened by unexpected patience when speaking to frightened travelers.”
Clothing
A dark green Gladewatch coat patched at both elbows, a boiled-leather shoulder guard, mud-stained trousers, heavy road boots, fingerless gloves, and the same faded red scarf in all weather. His belt carries a whistle, waxed cord, a folding knife, and a small tin of rose soap.
Body Language
Cedric stands with his shoulders squared and his weight slightly favoring his left leg. He touches the knot of his red scarf whenever he suspects a lie. When angry, he becomes almost perfectly still. When genuinely amused, he looks down and rubs one copper beard ring between thumb and forefinger.
