Appearance
Tavren looks like a man who has slept in armor for too many years and learned to make exhaustion resemble dignity. His face is broad at the cheekbones, weathered around the mouth, and marked by a thin white scar that begins beneath his left eye and disappears into his beard. He moves with economical precision, never quite limping despite an old injury in his right hip. His hands are callused like a dockworker's, but he wears a signet ring polished bright by constant anxious rubbing. The unexpected contradiction is his smile, which is warm, crooked, and almost boyish, appearing most often when someone insults his rank.
“His speech is plain, measured, and free of ornamental court language unless he is being deliberately threatening. He uses river and labor metaphors, pauses before names, and lowers his voice when discussing the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
A white scar under the left eye that vanishes into his beard.
A signet ring worn smooth from anxious rubbing.
A missing segment of the right ear, cut away during the winter evacuation.
A habit of folding paper into tiny boats.
A faint smell of horse leather, rain, and clove oil.
Voice
“A low, weathered baritone with a faint rasp, like boots dragged across a wooden floor. He can make a room quiet without raising his volume.”
Clothing
A dark blue wool coat reinforced with hidden leather panels, a rain-stained half-cape clasped with a broken royal badge, fitted riding trousers, mud-colored boots, and a plain linen shirt fastened at the throat. His armor is concealed beneath respectable travel clothes.
Body Language
He stands with his weight slightly favoring his left leg, keeps one hand near his saber, and turns his ring whenever someone mentions his family. In anger, he becomes unnaturally still. In grief, he starts folding scraps of paper into tiny boats.
