Origin

Before history, nine divine principles awakened inside the first mortal dream: protection, compassion, freedom, order, balance, change, domination, desire, and destruction. The principles became Seraphine, Veyra, Kharos, Iunathar, Edris, Othrys, Malrec, Nyxara, and Ruun. Their first conflict shattered the dream into the mortal world, and each god has since claimed that the division was necessary.

Cosmology

The universe is the Turning Crown, a living order of nine interlocking principles. Each god governs one alignment and one necessary pressure upon reality. Iunathar sits at the Crown’s central seat, but the throne is not permanent: every one, twenty-five, or one hundred years, the gods enter a tournament whose victor becomes the ultimate ruler for that cycle. The tournament may be fought through divine avatars, mortal champions, trials of faith, or open celestial conflict, depending on the wager.

Structure

The pantheon is organized as a contested divine court rather than a harmonious family. Iunathar currently holds the ultimate throne, but his authority is renewed or displaced through tournaments held every one, twenty-five, or one hundred years. Each deity maintains temples, priesthoods, sacred orders, and mortal champions. Greater gods influence nations and eras; Lesser gods shape regions and institutions; Outsiders appear through rare incarnations, disasters, and chosen vessels. The tournament’s victor gains the right to set one cosmic law, appoint the next cycle’s divine offices, and demand a binding concession from every other god.

Mortal Relations

The gods are intensely engaged with mortal life. They answer prayers through omens, dreams, miraculous coincidences, possessed relics, chosen champions, and disguised incarnations. Temples are political institutions, charities, courts, schools, military orders, and places of refuge. Mortals can influence the tournament by proving that a deity’s principles have failed, elevating a champion, exposing forbidden truths, or creating a movement powerful enough to alter divine alliances.

Afterlife

The dead arrive at the Confluence, where Iunathar weighs their choices against the testimony of the other eight gods. Souls are then drawn toward one of nine divine dominions, though the gods may contest a soul through champions, omens, and sacred trials. Those who reject every divine claim become wandering shades in the Grey Margin, where no god holds lasting authority.
