The three have maintained this division ever since, though their rivalry continually threatens to collapse morning, day, and night into one distant and unknowable state.

The world hangs between three immense celestial principles. Aurelion opens the eastern veil and gives beginnings a lawful shape. Vespera governs the exposed middle hours, when all things act, compete, and transform. Noctyra closes the western veil, drawing the world into silence, dream, and uncertainty. None created the others; each appeared when the first horizon divided existence into before, during, and after.

The religion is a loose triadic tradition called the Horizon Rite. It has no supreme earthly authority; instead, each temple maintains three observances, one for each phase of the day. Dawnkeepers preserve law, healing, and records in Aurelion's name. Wayfarers conduct public festivals, negotiations, and rites of passage for Vespera. Veilwardens oversee funerals, confidential confessions, dream interpretation, and the guarding of dangerous knowledge, though true Noctyran cults twist these duties toward coercion and erasure. The three orders cooperate uneasily, reflecting the distant balance of their gods.

Most mortal cultures acknowledge all three deities, even when they publicly favor one. Aurelion's temples serve as courts, hospitals, and schools; Vespera's shrines are found at crossroads, markets, theaters, and city gates; Noctyra's cults hide in crypts, private chambers, abandoned observatories, and political conspiracies. Ordinary people often pray to Aurelion for a beginning, Vespera for the strength to endure the day, and Noctyra for secrets to remain buried.

The dead pass beyond the visible heavens into the Far Horizon, where Aurelion's first light reveals the shape of their lives, Noctyra's darkness shelters their unspoken selves, and Vespera's long day measures what they have become. No deity claims the dead forever; each soul eventually fades into the distant radiance beyond the pantheon's sight.
