Before stars, time, or mortal thought, nine divine presences awoke around a single unspoken law. Iunathar gave that law shape, Orun gave it cycles, and the remaining gods pulled reality toward their opposing ideals. The mortal world formed where those pressures briefly balanced.

The universe is the Ninefold Distance, a cold expanse surrounding the mortal world. Iunathar forged its laws from the silence before creation, while Orun sustains its cycles and Veyra opens unpredictable paths between them. The other gods embody competing answers to existence: Aurelion's duty, Seralyth's mercy, Caelith's freedom, Nhalec's dominion, Morvane's appetite, and Raxivar's annihilation.

The religion has no single church. It consists of nine competing traditions, each centered on shrines, wandering orders, civic temples, household rites, or secret societies. Iunathar's Concordants maintain courts and archives; Aurelion's Wardens protect sanctuaries; Seralyth's Lantern Houses shelter the vulnerable; Caelith's Storm Circles gather rebels and artists; Orun's Keepers observe natural cycles; Veyra's Wayfarers travel without fixed temples; Nhalec's Iron Synods govern through fear; Morvane's Velvet Courts trade in secrets; and Raxivar's Ash Choirs prepare for annihilation.

The gods rarely answer directly. Their influence arrives through coincidences, inherited laws, recurring dreams, altered weather, impossible travelers, and institutions that outlive their founders. Most mortals know the pantheon through local shrines rather than doctrine, and distant temples often disagree about whether a god's silence is indifference, judgment, or protection.

The dead pass into the Still Expanse, a distant realm divided into nine horizons by Iunathar. Each soul is drawn toward the deity whose ideals most shaped its life, though Veyra may guide the lost and Nhalec may claim those who betrayed their deepest vows.
