The Grove That Remembers

You enter a circular clearing where four ancient standing stones lean inward around a basin of perfectly still black water. Moss glows along their roots, and fireflies hover in slow spirals beneath the branches. Each stone carries three carved animals, but rain has worn away some of their features. A bronze disk rests beside the basin, divided into four motifs. When anyone steps close, the water briefly reflects a sequence of animal shapes, and blue-green light travels from stone to stone with a faint chiming pulse.

Discovery

The shrine can be found beneath a curtain of hanging ivy, usually after following a trail of unusually pale mushrooms or hearing birds repeat the same four-note call. The entrance is not locked, but the Memory Veins awaken when a creature touches the bronze disk or places an animal token on a standing stone.

The water shows four images in succession. The bronze disk flashes one motif beneath each image.

First came the owl, silent beneath the leaf.

Then came the stag, crowned above the acorn.

Then came the raven, dark beside the feather.

Last came the heron, standing beneath the reflected moon.

Remember the walker, remember the sign. Set them in order, and the path is thine.

Player Instruction

Place one animal token on each standing stone. Press the bronze motif that belongs with each animal, from first remembered to last. When all four stones answer with light, touch the center of the basin.
