The Last Light Gate

The chamber is a round vault of pale stone and dark bronze, its walls cut with sunrise motifs worn smooth by reverent hands. Six mirrors ring the room, each catching whatever light exists and turning it into thin blades that crawl across the floor. The air smells of dust, myrrh, and old rain on stone, and the room answers movement with a low, organ-like hum whenever the mirrors shift toward the oculus. At the west wall, a seam almost vanishes into the masonry, but the line brightens for a heartbeat whenever the correct light falls across it, hinting that the temple entrance is listening.
