The Last Light Judgment

The chamber opens into a circular ruin of pale basalt and sun-bleached gold leaf, its floor scored by three rings like a gigantic sundial whose gnomon has been split into a sacred altar. Dust hangs in the air, glittering when the first slant of dawn or a conjured beam reaches the center, and the stone answers with a low, organ-like hum. Along the walls, faded reliefs show kneeling pilgrims with bowed heads and open hands, while the center dais glows faintly whenever truth is spoken near it. One wrong turn makes the whole structure shiver, venting hot breath, harsh light, and a warning toll that echoes through the ruins.
