The Shifting Hall of Smiling Glass

The room is a round vault dressed like a forgotten sideshow: crimson velvet strips sag from brass rails, cracked mirrors stand at the compass points, and a painted grin circles the black-and-white floor like a carousel track. Every surface throws back an extra flicker of light, but the reflections do not quite agree, with one mirror showing a lit stage where the others show empty dark. When the mirrors shift, the whole chamber answers with a soft clatter of gears and a breath of cold perfume, as if the room itself is inhaling between tricks.
