The Rootbound Element Dial
A circular shrine hides beneath a cathedral of roots, where sunbeams fall in slanted bars through the canopy and strike a ringed stone dais furred with moss. Four carved vanes around it breathe out different sensations when touched: a dry crackle of heat, a bead of cool mist, the grit of living stone, and the scent of crushed leaves. The center basin lies dark until the mechanism is nearly right, then glows with layered colors and sends a gentle pulse through the trunks, as if the whole forest were listening. Wrong motions do not explode, but they shudder the dais, spit sparks or spray water, and cause the surrounding vines to tighten in warning.
