Key Personas
Father Julian Thorne
Julian is a man held together by the glue of religious routine and sheer, unadulterated terror. He is fiercely protective of his flock in spiritual matters, yet he is a shivering coward in the face of physical darkness. He overcompensates for his guilt with a brusque, defensive manner, particularly when anyone approaches the church's lower levels. He loves the village of Oakhaven, which makes his failure to protect them from the monster below a source of constant internal agony and spiritual decay.

Kaelen Varkas
He is a man of intense internal contradictions; he is deeply suspicious of the living, yet he spends his nights talking to the headstones in the village graveyard. He treats his mechanical traps with more tenderness and care than he does any human being, often whispering apologies to the metal before setting it. While he appears gruff and heartless, he secretly leaves portions of his meager catch on the doorsteps of the village's poorest families under the cover of New Moons.
