Recipe: Wilderness Encounter
The Thunder-Step Echo
The air atop the Viridian Plateau is thick enough to chew, saturated with the scent of crushed ferns, wet earth, and the metallic tang of old blood. Massive ferns, their fronds the size of wagon wheels, tremble with every rhythmic boom that vibrates through the soles of your boots. It is not thunder from the sky, but the cadence of prehistoric life claiming its territory in a world that forgot to die. Great shadows bank and turn through the low-hanging clouds, their leathery wings silent compared to the cacophony below. To the north, a sulfurous river carves a path through the limestone, its banks lined with the bleached ribs of long-dead giants. Here, the food chain is not a metaphor—it is a physical law written in three-toed footprints the size of bathtubs, and you have just stepped onto the bottom rung.
Professor Thaddeus Pring, naturalist and reluctant survivor
“In the city, we are masters of metal and stone. Here, we are merely morsels wrapped in leather armor.”
