The Skiafeyn are masters of the silhouette who treat the physical world as a canvas of light and dark. These fey travelers do not merely walk through shadows; they manipulate the very fabric of darkness to bind foes, craft illusions, and even sever a soul's connection to its own reflection. As a Skiafeyn, your very shadow is a tool, a weapon, and sometimes, your oldest friend.
Physical Description
Lanky and graceful, Skiafeyn possess skin that ranges from moon-bleached white to the deep charcoal of a storm cloud. Their hair often appears semi-translucent or wispy, like smoke caught in a gentle breeze. Their most unsettling feature is their eyes, which lack pupils and instead glow with a soft, bioluminescent silver or violet light. Most notably, a Skiafeyn's shadow does not always mirror their movements. It may linger a second too long or point toward a light source rather than away from it.
Society & Culture
Skiafeyn culture is rooted in the philosophy of the Interstitial. They believe the most important parts of life happen in the transitions between states. They are often nomadic, traveling in small troupes known as 'Veils' that perform theater, weaving illusions and shadow-plays for local villages. Within their own circles, they value the art of 'Stitching,' a magical discipline that uses shadow as a physical thread to mend both garments and spirits.
Religion & Alignment
Most Skiafeyn lean toward Neutrality, viewing the struggle between light and dark as a dance rather than a war. They often revere the Weaver of Twixt, a fey deity of boundaries and silhouettes. While they are rarely malicious, their mischievous nature and tendency to 'borrow' shadows can make them appear chaotic to more rigid societies.
Homelands & Architecture
Their home realm is a twilight reflection of the material world, where the sun is forever setting. Their architecture is made of solidified gloom and polished obsidian, featuring high, thin spires that cast long, geometric shadows used as 'roads' for those with the talent to walk them.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They find 'Solid Folk' (humans, dwarves, and the like) fascinating but a bit clumsy. They share a deep, quiet kinship with elf-like species who appreciate the nuance of twilight. Conversely, they are often at odds with celestial-born beings, as the blinding radiance of such creatures burns the delicate shadow-threads the Skiafeyn work so hard to spin.
