Their hands are dexterous, their feet are steady on uneven surfaces, and their eyes adjust quickly to the changing light of streets, workshops, and stairwells. Many have broad noses, expressive brows, thick hair, and skin marked by freckles or soot-like pigment around the knuckles and temples.
