They can cross a plain by starlight, find drinkable water beneath dry soil, and recite a century of treaties while preparing dinner. To outsiders they may seem restless, but the Veyruun know that stillness is not the same as peace. Every Veyruun carries a map of obligations in their heart, and every journey asks what they are willing to leave behind.

Veyruun are rangy, long-limbed humanoids with powerful legs, broad chests, and flexible joints suited to constant travel. Their skin ranges from copper and umber to tawny gold, often marked by natural bands or mottling that resemble grass shadows. Thick hair grows along the neck, shoulders, forearms, and calves, giving many Veyruun a mane-like silhouette. Their faces combine expressive, wide-set eyes with short muzzles, strong noses, and mobile ears that can angle toward distant sounds. Some have small swept-back horns, ridged brows, or keratinous crests, traits that vary between family lines. Their hands are dexterous and humanlike, with dark nails suited to digging, climbing, and handling reins.

Veyruun society is organized into traveling clans connected by marriage, trade, shared water rights, and ritual obligations. Leadership is situational. A skilled herder leads during migration, a mediator leads during negotiations, and a storm-reader leads when the sky turns dangerous. Every clan maintains a memory-keeper who records agreements through song, painted cords, carved markers, and repeated public recitation. Hospitality is sacred, but it is not limitless. A guest receives food, water, and shelter, while an oath-breaker may be denied even a cup from the communal well. Children are raised by the whole clan, and adulthood is marked by a season of wandering during which the young Veyruun must learn to offer useful labor among people who do not know them.

Veyruun spirituality centers on the Breath Between Things, an unseen current believed to move through weather, animals, ancestors, and human decisions. Their priests, called Wind-Listeners, interpret unusual storms, animal migrations, and dreams. Most Veyruun favor communal responsibility and personal freedom, making lawful good, neutral good, and chaotic good common among them, though every alignment can be found in a people accustomed to adapting rather than obeying.

Veyruun homelands are shaped by movement rather than marked by borders. Clans travel between known wells, sacred hills, sheltered valleys, and summer grazing grounds. Their portable homes are circular windbreaks of leather, woven reed, and painted felt, designed to be dismantled before dawn. Permanent settlements appear around reliable springs and trade crossings, where low stone halls are built partly underground to resist heat, cold, and wind. Architecture favors rounded corners, open courtyards, shaded walkways, and tall poles bearing clan streamers that can be seen from miles away.

Veyruun trade widely with settled peoples, exchanging livestock, salt, medicinal grasses, weather knowledge, and skilled guides. They respect communities that honor hospitality and distrust governments that redraw borders without consulting those who travel across them. Veyruun often form strong friendships with rural folk, caravan families, rangers, and sailors who understand the discipline of long journeys. They regard subterranean cultures with fascination and unease, while their relationships with forest-dwellers vary from respectful cooperation to old disputes over grazing, fire, and water.
