In the shifting mires of the Twin-Pledge Marches, the Myocast are the master builders of the reeds. Known for their intricate dam-cities and a culture built on absolute loyalty, these stout, fur-covered humanoids view a broken promise as a spiritual death. If you want to play a character who blends physical durability with a deep commitment to their companions, the Myocast are the architects of your next party.
Physical Description
The Myocast are heavy-set bipeds resembling massive, humanoid beavers with thick, water-resistant fur ranging from deep chestnut brown to slate gray. Their most distinctive features are their broad, scale-covered tails which act as rudders while swimming and stabilizers while standing. They possess powerful incisors capable of shearing through hardwood, and their webbed hands are surprisingly nimble, tipped with claws designed for both digging and delicate carpentry. Small, dark eyes sit above a broad snout, reflecting a keen, observant intelligence.
Society & Culture
Society is governed by the Great Pledges: the Promise of the Hearth and the Promise of the Border. Every Myocast is raised to believe that their labor is a gift to the collective. They live in sprawling, semi-submerged lodges made of timber and hardened river mud. Status is not determined by wealth but by the complexity and durability of one's craftsmanship. Music is a central pillar of their culture, specifically rhythmic percussion played on hollowed logs or by slapping their tails against the water to signal across long distances.
Religion & Alignment
Most Myocast lean toward Lawful Neutral or Lawful Good alignments, valuing order, communal stability, and the sanctity of one's word. They venerate the River-Mother, a personification of the waterways that provide life and timber. Their religion focuses on the preservation of the Marches and the maintenance of the ancient treaties between the two major human duchies that border their lands.
Homelands & Architecture
The Twin-Pledge Marches serve as their ancestral home, a vast expanse of floodplains and reed-beds. Myocast architecture is marvelously complex, involving lock systems and floating platforms that rise and fall with the tides. Their 'Great Weir' cities act as both residential hubs and bridges between the northern and southern trade routes of the Marches.
Relationships With Other Peoples
The Myocast are seen as the reliable backbone of regional trade. They maintain polite but cautious relationships with 'dry-foot' species like humans or dwarf-kin, whom they often charge tolls for safe passage through the waterways. They share a kinship with goblin-kin who respect the natural boundaries of the swamp but harbor a deep-seated rivalry with any creature that seeks to drain or pollute the marshes.
