Aresforged Brutes are the children of battle-smoke and oathfire, a beastfolk people tempered by forge, pack, and ordeal. They are known as living bulwarks, but their greatest strength is not simple fury. It is the stubborn, inherited will to endure, protect, and choose a future larger than the war that made them.
Physical Description
Aresforged Brutes are broad, muscular beastfolk with powerful jaws, thick necks, and a stance that suggests both predator and plow beast. Their fur, mane, scales, or hide patterns vary by lineage, but many bear the look of a creature shaped by fire, iron, and endurance. Their hands are strong and dexterous, suited to weaponry, masonry, and craft, while their eyes tend to be keen and forward-set, with an intensity that can read as feral to the uninitiated. Scars are often worn openly as proof of surviving what was meant to break them.
Society & Culture
Brute society is built around packs, foundries, and oathbound households rather than strict bloodline alone. Clan identity matters, but chosen kinship matters almost as much, and adoption is common after trials, rescue, or service. They preserve history in scars, songs, bellows, and the arrangement of tools around the hearth. Children are taught that rage is a tool, not a master, and that the most honored victory is the one that leaves the community stronger afterward. Their festivals blend wrestling, storytelling, meal-sharing, and the public repair of broken things. A Brute who cannot fight is still expected to contribute, often as a scout, smith, healer, judge, singer, or keeper of rites.
Religion & Alignment
Aresforged Brutes are rarely unanimous in faith, but most keep some reverence for ancestors, hearth-spirits, forge powers, or war-saints. Their traditions favor deeds over dogma, and many believe the dead remain present through memory, ritual, and inherited instinct. They are not bound to any one alignment, though their culture prizes courage, loyalty, and the defense of the pack. Many Brutes become lawful by temperament, while others embody fierce freedom, stubborn compassion, or disciplined wrath.
Homelands & Architecture
Aresforged homelands are usually ringed by old stone walls, slag ridges, and blackened forges, though some live in mobile caravan forts or cliffside holdfasts. Their architecture favors thick lintels, broad hearths, low doors that hold heat, and interior spaces marked by banners, bone inlays, and trophies of oath rather than conquest. A Brute home is less a house than a declaration of who belongs within its walls.
Relationships With Other Peoples
Other peoples often mistake Brutes for simple soldiers or hired muscle, which is an insult they have heard for generations. Some find them intimidating but dependable, especially in crises. They usually respect directness, craftsmanship, and proven courage, and they tend to distrust those who dress cruelty as refinement. Among strangers, a Brute may be guarded at first, then fiercely generous once respect is established. They get along well with disciplined artisans, frontier communities, and anyone who understands the difference between violence and protection.
