A Resonant adventurer may be a surveyor, exile, trader, tunnel-warden, relic hunter, or simply the first member of their family to decide that the surface is worth seeing for themselves.

Resonant Folk are compact humanoids with broad hands, sturdy torsos, and flexible joints suited to climbing through irregular passages. Their skin ranges from chalk white and warm clay to charcoal, olive, and muted violet, often patterned with natural freckles that resemble mineral grains. Their eyes are large and reflective, with colors including amber, silver, smoky blue, and deep brown. Hair is usually thick and coarse, worn in practical braids or close-cropped styles. Many possess sensitive whisker-like hairs along the cheeks, wrists, or jawline that help them detect air movement. These filaments are not required for survival, but their movement is an important part of facial expression. The Resonant Folk build settlements around dependable water, defensible chambers, and natural stone that carries sound well. Their homes are carved rather than stacked, with low doorways, rounded corners, recessed sleeping shelves, and communal halls arranged around echoing wells. Walls are polished in bands to mark districts, family histories, and changes in ownership. Lamps are shaded with mica, shell, or translucent fungus so that illumination remains soft and directional. Surface visitors sometimes mistake their cities for mines, but every cut and pillar is planned with the patience of a garden.

Resonant Folk prefer dependable alliances and dislike grand promises unsupported by practical action. They trade minerals, preserved fungi, maps, engineering knowledge, and underground medicines with neighboring peoples. Surface settlements often regard them as secretive, while Resonant communities view surface cultures as dangerously wasteful with space, water, and information. They maintain especially strong ties with miners, engineers, rangers, and communities that respect burial sites and old roads. Relations sour quickly when outsiders collapse tunnels, poison aquifers, or remove artifacts without recording where they came from.
