Small, vibrant, and infused with the refraction of the Aurora Borealis, the Prismari Glimmer-kin are a lineage of fey-touched gnomes who traded the heavy earth for the weightless joy of the light. They possess translucent skin and hair that shifts like spun sugar under the sun, allowing them to bend the very colors of the world around them.
Physical Description
Prismari Glimmer-kin are delicate in frame, resembling standard gnome-kin but with several ethereal differences. Their skin is often pale or tinted with gemstone hues like sapphire, ruby, or emerald, possessing a slight translucent quality that glows in dim light. Their hair is their most striking feature, appearing as shimmering strands of fiber-optic light that change color based on their emotional state. Most possess a pair of small, iridescent gossamer wings that look like dragonfly wings or shards of stained glass; while these wings are rarely strong enough for long distance flight, they allow for agile leaps and slow descents. Their eyes lack pupils, looking instead like multifaceted diamonds or opals.
Society & Culture
Glimmer-kin society is a structured whimsy. They value the preservation of beauty and the cataloging of rare colors. Unlike their more industrious earthen cousins, Glimmer-kin focus on 'Light-Craft', the art of capturing starlight in gems or weaving rainbows into fabric. They live in small, tightly knit enclaves where stories are shared through vivid illusory projections rather than books. A Glimmer-kin’s status is often determined by the complexity of the light-patterns they can naturally emit, leading to a culture of constant, colorful display and creative competition.
Religion & Alignment
Most Glimmer-kin lean toward Chaotic Good or Neutral Good, valuing individual freedom and the joy of existence. They rarely worship distant deities, preferring to pay homage to the Great Prismatic Weave or specific fey lords of the Northern Lights. They believe that their souls are literal fragments of light that return to the stars upon their death.
Homelands & Architecture
They build their homes in high places or subterranean crystalline halls where light can be easily refracted. Their architecture features massive lenses made of enchanted ice or quartz that funnel sunlight into every corner, creating perpetual rainbows. Their settlements, often called 'Kaleidoscope Spires', are built into the sides of glacial cliffs or hanging from the branches of ancient, silver-barked trees.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They find the larger folk somewhat heavy and slow of wit, particularly those who lack an appreciation for art. They have a natural kinship with elves and other fey-blooded creatures, though they find the seriousness of dwarf-kin amusing. They are often sought out by travelers for their ability to navigate magical storms and their deep knowledge of the prismatic planes.
