To witness a Lyriumborn is to see a living master of grace and logic constantly teetering on the edge of a psychic abyss.

To the casual observer, a Lyriumborn appears as an exceptionally tall and graceful elf-kin. Closer inspection reveals the crystalline contamination. Their irises are not soft tissue but hard, luminous blue facets that catch the light like cut diamonds. Their skin is unnaturally pale, traced with fine, branching veins of cobalt where the lyrium essence has dyed their blood. They move with a metronomic, almost mechanical precision that borders on the uncanny.

Society in Montcemelle is a desperate race against the madness of the crystal. Because the monolith’s whispers can eventually turn a person into a mindless, ghoul-like husk, the Lyriumborn have built a culture around total mental and physical discipline. Most Lyriumborn avoid traditional deities, viewing the monolith as a supreme, if indifferent, cosmic force. They lean heavily toward Lawful alignments, adhering to strict personal codes to preserve their sanity. Those who fall into Neutral or Chaotic alignments are often viewed as 'slipping,' nearing the point of no return.

Montcemelle is a city of soaring spires and translucent glass, built directly over and around the blue monolith. The architecture is designed to hum in resonance with the crystal, supposed to filter the most aggressive psychic frequencies. Below the city lie the Vaults of the Silenced, where those who have lost their minds to the blue hunger are locked away from the light.

Outside of Montcemelle, Lyriumborn are viewed with a mix of awe and pity. Other elven cultures see them as a tragedy, a lineage that has traded its soul for power. Humans are often fascinated by their arcane utility but find their rigid social habits off-putting. The Lyriumborn themselves view outsiders as 'hollow,' envying their freedom from the blue thirst while pitying their perceived lack of magical depth.
