The Vitreous Scale-kin are small, lithe reptilians with hide as tough as buffed leather. Their scales are unique; they possess a semi-translucent, glass-like quality that refracts the white light of the Zhemchuzhina Borral Forest. Often tinted with hues of orange or pale silver, their skin matches the limestone and ore of their home. Their eyes are large and sensitive, reflecting light like a cat, and their hands end in thick, hooked claws perfect for gripping vertical limestone faces and navigating razor-sharp vegetation.

They live in communal groups called Prisms. In these Prisms, social status is determined by one's ability to navigate the dangerous needles of the forest without injury and the volume of orange ore they can recover. They are expert trapsmiths, using the forest's own abrasive needles as defensive barriers. Because of the forest's predators, they have developed a culture of absolute silence and hand-sign communication while outdoors. Art is focused on lapidary work and the polishing of crystalline glass into sharp, functional tools.

Most Vitreous Scale-kin follow a pragmatic neutrality. They view the forest as a grand, uncaring machine of light and glass. They often venerate the 'Deep Spark', a personification of the orange ore they mine. Their alignments lean toward Lawful or True Neutral, emphasizing group survival and the maintenance of their cliffside warrens over individual ambition.

Their homes are carved directly into the limestone calanques. These warrens are mazes of narrow tunnels designed to exclude larger predators. Because of the intense coastal humidity, their architecture includes clever vertical vents that use the sea breeze to cool and dehumidify their subterranean dwellings.
