Veilborn are slender, resilient humanoids whose bodies appear assembled from flesh, cartilage, and translucent mineral membranes. Veilborn enclaves are built around resonant chambers where sound, scent, and faint psychic impressions travel through carefully shaped stone. Homes are grown from layered mineral resin and funguswood, with no true doors except in private sanctums. Public spaces are circular so that no speaker stands above the others, while ancestral halls contain suspended nodules that preserve selected memories as shimmering motes of light.

Surface peoples often mistake Veilborn reserve for deception, while Veilborn may interpret privacy as concealed danger. They have longstanding trade relationships with miners, mushroom farmers, and subterranean artisans, but distrust empires that catalogue their bodies or claim ownership of their memory nodules. Veilborn friendships are intense and deliberate. Once someone is welcomed into an enclave's trust, they may be offered a memory-thread, a symbolic sharing of one meaningful sensory recollection.
