Aerieclaws are broad-shouldered humanoids combining the imposing frame of a bear, the sleek agility of a great forest cat, the plumage and hooked profile of a raptor, and the aquatic adaptations of a river predator. Their bodies are covered in dense fur that gives way to short, water-shedding down along the limbs and torso. Coloration ranges from russet, charcoal, and tawny gold to silver, cream, deep blue, and river-green. Their faces are feline and expressive, with rounded ears, strong jaws, and eyes that may be amber, black, green, or reflective silver. Powerful feathered wings grow from the shoulder blades. Small fins line the forearms, calves, and spine, and a flexible tail helps them steer while swimming or flying. Their hands end in blunt retractable claws, suited to climbing, fishing, and close combat.

Aerieclaw society is organized into extended clans, each associated with a nesting territory, a waterway, and a remembered founder. Leadership is shared between a Groundkeeper, who oversees food, shelter, and diplomacy, and a Skywarden, who handles scouting, defense, and long-distance travel. Important decisions are debated in circles where every adult may speak, while children are encouraged to ask difficult questions. Aerieclaws celebrate the first flight, the first successful deep dive, and the first solitary hunt as major life passages. Their festivals combine aerial dances, river races, drumming on hollow trunks, and enormous communal feasts. They dislike waste, boastfulness, and needless cruelty, but admire courage, craft, and the ability to remain calm during a crisis.

Aerieclaw spirituality centers on the Three Currents: the Root Below, the Wind Above, and the Water Between. These forces are not always worshiped as distinct gods, but are honored through seasonal rites, ancestor songs, and offerings of fruit, feathers, and clean water. Aerieclaws tend toward neutral alignments, valuing natural balance over law or chaos, though clan traditions produce both disciplined wardens and fiercely independent wanderers.

Aerieclaw homelands are built where forest, water, and open sky meet. Their villages occupy giant trees, cliff shelves, and river islands, connected by rope bridges, broad ramps, and landing platforms. Homes are warm, rounded structures of woven roots, bark, hide, and bone, with shallow pools or rain channels built into their floors. Communal roosts crown the highest trees, while underwater chambers and submerged storehouses preserve food during the hottest months.

Aerieclaws often regard other peoples as different kinds of weather: some are warm and nourishing, some dangerous, and some impossible to predict. They respect communities that protect their waters and forests, but distrust those who fence off rivers or strip hillsides bare. Their size and unusual appearance can make them seem intimidating, yet many Aerieclaws are attentive hosts who place great importance on feeding guests and offering a safe place to rest.
