Violetborn are the death-touched descendants of an Immortal God, beings who carry renewal in their blood and unanswered questions in their souls. They can endure wounds that would break other people, speak with the weight of inherited memory, and find beauty in the places where life struggles hardest to return. Yet every Violetborn must decide what resurrection truly means: restoration, transformation, or the courage to let the dead remain at peace.

Violetborn resemble tall, finely built humanoids with an otherworldly stillness. Their skin ranges from warm umber and moon-pale gray to deep brown with subtle lavender undertones. Violet, indigo, or wine-dark markings appear naturally along the throat, sternum, palms, and around the eyes, brightening during strong emotion or exposure to magic that affects life and death. Their eyes possess ringed irises, commonly violet, silver, or black with a luminous central point. Hair may be humanlike, but often grows in unusual shades such as ash white, midnight blue, or dark plum. Violetborn blood smells faintly of crushed flowers, and their shadows sometimes show buds, roots, or branching veins that are not present on the body.

Violetborn culture is organized around remembrance, renewal, and the ethical limits of immortality. Families maintain memory gardens where names are carved into living trees, while elders teach through layered stories that preserve multiple versions of the same event. Births are celebrated with the planting of a violet bulb, and deaths are marked by a vigil in which mourners speak not only of what was lost, but also of what may grow from the loss. Their communities often appoint Keepers to judge disputes over restoration, including whether a ruined building should be rebuilt, whether a dangerous tradition should survive, or whether a deceased person should be called back. This makes Violetborn society thoughtful and compassionate, but also slow to act when immediate decisions are needed.

Most Violetborn revere the Immortal God through acts of careful restoration, remembrance, and compassionate judgment. Their central rite, the Violet Rebirth, asks whether a person, community, or tradition should be preserved, changed, or released. They are not required to worship the Immortal God, and many become skeptics after witnessing resurrection used for conquest or vanity. Violetborn tend toward good and neutral alignments, but zealots who believe every death is a mistake can become ruthless enemies of nature, fate, and free will.

Their oldest homeland is the Rebirth Basin, a valley filled with violet flowering trees that grow from the remains of the honored dead. Violetborn architecture uses curved walls, open courtyards, underground reliquaries, and channels for rainwater scented with petals and ash. Doors are often engraved with the names of those who built them, while public halls contain empty seats reserved for ancestors, future generations, and strangers yet to arrive.

Many mortals regard Violetborn with a mixture of reverence and unease. They are welcomed as physicians, undertakers, gardeners, and advisers, but blamed when crops fail, ghosts linger, or a loved one returns changed by magic. Clerics and scholars often seek their testimony about ancient events, while rulers may attempt to control them as symbols of legitimacy. Violetborn themselves disagree about ordinary peoples. Some see them as fragile lives requiring protection, others as partners in a shared cycle, and a few as dangerously attached to a single brief existence.
