Play a Lithic Exarch if you wish to embody a living geological monument that possesses the crushing weight of the earth and the clarity of a polished diamond. You are an ancient soul forged from stone and magic, standing as a bulwark against the entropy of the mortal world.
Physical Description
The Exarchs are massive, barrel-chested humanoids whose skin resembles polished obsidian or igneous rock. Their most striking feature is the clusters of translucent crystals that grow from their shoulders, brow, and knuckles. These crystals hum with a faint internal light that shifts color based on their emotional state or ambient magical energy. They move with a deceptive grace, their footsteps creating a rhythmic, metallic clinking sound like stones grinding in a riverbed.
Society & Culture
Exarch society is built on the concept of The Great Strata, a philosophy that dictates everyone has a specific place in the foundation of the world. They are masterful stonemasons and historians, believing that memory should be carved into the world itself rather than written on fragile parchment. Their gatherings are often silent, as they communicate through rhythmic vibrations sent through the ground, a method they call Deep-Singing. They value longevity and patience above all other virtues.
Religion & Alignment
Most Exarchs lean toward Neutrality, viewing the conflicts of good and evil as fleeting storms on a mountain's face. They often venerate primordial entities of the earth and sun. Their religion is less about prayer and more about the maintenance of sacred landscapes. An Exarch might spend decades perfecting a single statue or redirecting a lava flow to protect a holy grove.
Homelands & Architecture
Exarch settlements are often carved directly into living rock, blending seamlessly with natural formations. They prefer vertical spaces with high, vaulted ceilings and large vents for geothermal heat. Their cities are often situated near 'Ley-Wells' where magical energy is most concentrated, feeding the growth of their internal crystals. Their architecture avoids right angles, favoring the hexagonal geometry of quartz and basalt columns.
Relationships With Other Peoples
Exarchs view shorter-lived species with a mixture of pity and bewilderment. They often get along well with dwarf-like kin and subterranean gnomes who share their respect for the earth. They are suspicious of the winged or sea-faring folk, finding their lack of solid ground beneath their feet to be inherently untrustworthy. Among elves and other ancient peoples, they are respected as keepers of deep-time secrets.
