Hollowscale look human at a glance, but the illusion fades under close inspection. Their eyes are slit or heavily lidded, with irises that catch light like polished stone. Fine scales usually trace the collarbone, forearms, spine, cheekbones, and calves, though some are nearly covered from throat to ankle. They commonly have clawed fingers and toes, subtle cranial ridges, a narrow tail no longer than a forearm, or small hornlets that never fully resolved during their making. They prefer spaces that can be sealed quickly, watched from many angles, and altered without shame.

Most Hollowscale approach other peoples with caution and curiosity in equal measure. They know what it is to be watched as a marvel, a threat, or a specimen, so they are often empathetic toward anyone treated as less than fully person. Folk who value useful labor tend to accept them quickly, while superstitious communities may whisper that their blood can spoil births, crack mirrors, or attract planar predators. Hollowscale usually respond by becoming indispensable, quietly generous, or terrifyingly competent.
