They measure wealth in remembered roads, reliable friends, and promises carried safely across generations. A veyrani adventurer may be a restless outrider, a diplomatic herd-scion, a banished omen-reader, or simply someone who has decided that the next horizon holds a question worth chasing.

Veyrani are graceful beast-folk descended from swift grazing animals of the open plains. Their heads combine humanoid features with the long muzzles, alert ears, and expressive eyes of antelope, gazelle, saiga, or other horned herd beasts. Most possess horns, antlers, or ridged brow crests, though their shapes vary widely between families. Their bodies are lean and powerful, with digitigrade legs, split hooves, and short tails that flick constantly with mood. Coats range from cream, russet, charcoal, gold, and umber to unusual blue-grey or white, often marked with stripes, spots, facial masks, or dark lower legs. Veyrani clothing is light, layered, and practical, favoring wrapped scarves, decorated harnesses, beadwork, and brightly painted horn caps.

Veyrani society is organized around extended households, traveling clans, and seasonal alliances called circles. Each circle includes specialists such as pathfinders, healers, singers, scouts, negotiators, and memory-keepers. Leadership is usually shared between a practical guide who manages immediate needs and a lorekeeper who guards tradition, though charismatic individuals can unite several circles during times of crisis. Veyrani education is experiential. Children learn by walking routes, observing animals, practicing hospitality, and listening to stories repeated with deliberate variations. A lie told for vanity is shameful, but a riddle, metaphor, or playful exaggeration is considered a sign of intelligence.

Veyrani spirituality centers on the living land, ancestral herds, sky phenomena, and the memory held by roads and watering places. Some revere named deities of wind, dawn, fertility, or the hunt, while others speak of the Vast Herd, an unseen company of ancestors moving across the night sky. Their communal traditions tend toward good and lawful behavior, but individual veyrani may be fiercely independent, mischievous, or even ruthless when the herd is threatened.

Veyrani homelands are defined less by permanent borders than by remembered routes. Their camps gather around windbreaks, shallow wells, standing stones, and ancient trees. Some clans live in hide tents designed to fold onto pack frames, while settled communities build low circular houses with roof vents, shaded courtyards, and broad doorways. Important structures are aligned with migration roads rather than cardinal directions. A veyrani village may seem temporary to a stranger, yet every post, fire pit, and carved stone has a history attached to it.

Veyrani are accustomed to trading, negotiating, and sharing roads with settled peoples, though they distrust rulers who draw borders across old migration paths. They often form strong friendships with travelers, shepherds, rangers, and other outsiders who respect local customs. Their hospitality is generous but structured: a guest receives food, water, and protection, while a host expects honesty and restraint in return. Veyrani may seem evasive when asked where they are from, because many consider a single birthplace less important than the route that shaped them.
