Halfling society in Ivalice is clan-based, mobile, and deeply communal. Because they are forbidden to own land, their wealth is measured in wagons, tools, contacts, favors, and the security of the clan web rather than in estates. Their semi-nomadic communities move from city to city selling services, and each clan tends to specialize. Swiftfoot clans are known for acrobats, circus acts, theater troupes, musicians, storytellers, and live entertainment of every kind. Strongheart clans are merchants, moneylenders, bankers, brokers, and careful negotiators who thrive on trust, memory, and impeccable records. Both traditions prize hospitality, conspicuous craftsmanship, and the ability to keep a secret when the clan needs one kept. Children are raised collectively, elders are consulted often, and personal achievement is respected most when it strengthens the family as a whole. Halflings love good food, strong drink, fine clothing, and well-earned possessions, especially items gained through daring or skill. Their greatest social insult is often not cruelty but boredom, waste, or needless rigidity.
