Darkvision60 feet
Born from the swirling confluence of light and lingering planar ash, the Chromavaft are humanoid embodiments of the Plane of Prism. These gaseous-fleshed survivors manifest as either the brooding heart of a storm or the blinding brilliance of a rainbow, wielding the power of their shifting forms to navigate the physical and ethereal worlds with equal grace.
Physical Description
A Chromavaft's body appears composed of tightly bound, high-density vapor. Their skin is smooth but possesses a soft, blurring quality at the edges, as if they are constantly out of focus. Those aligned with the storm exhibit deep charcoal or navy skin with flickering white or yellow veins that resemble trapped lightning. Conversely, those aligned with the spectrum have vibrant, shifting skin tones of magenta, teal, or gold, emitting a faint, warm glow. Their hair often resembles drifting smoke, and their eyes are solid spheres of light or roiling cloud-matter.
Society & Culture
Chromavaft culture revolves around the concept of 'The Refraction,' the belief that all existence is merely light being broken into different truths. They are an artistic and philosophical people who value perspective over objective dogma. In their home plane, they live in floating social hubs where status is determined by the complexity of one's inner glow or the resonance of their internal hum. They rarely form large governments, preferring loose associations governed by aesthetic consensus.
Religion & Alignment
Most Chromavaft lean toward neutrality, seeing themselves as observers of the cosmic spectrum. They rarely worship deities of the material world, instead venerating the Great Prism, a conceptual entity representing total enlightenment. Their alignment is often chaotic, driven by a whim as fleeting as the wind, yet they are rarely malicious.
Homelands & Architecture
In the Plane of Prism, they inhabit the 'Glass Spires,' towers made of solidified light and reinforced crystal that hang suspended in a multi-colored sky. Architecture there is designed to catch light at specific angles, creating rooms of solid shadow or blinding color depending on the time of day. In the Material Plane, they gravitate toward mountaintops or high-altitude observatories.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They find the solid, earth-bound species such as dwarf-kin or stone-folk to be strangely heavy and unimaginative. They possess a natural kinship with elf-like beings and other elemental-descended kin, though they often find the 'pure' air-dwellers too flighty and the fire-folk too destructive. Chromavaft view themselves as the elegant middle ground between energy and matter.
