Cultural, political, and technological heart of the world. · Floating urban continent
Hook
A failing leyline beneath the capital turns traffic grids, elevators, and public spellwork into dangerous miracles.
Atrix Isles is a ring of continents orbiting a massive floating land at the world’s center. The central Atrix Isle holds crowded cities, arcane highways, diverse neighborhoods, and the largest metropolis in the realm. Beyond it, every continent carries a distinct biome, culture, and technological identity. Now the leyline network that powers magic and modern life is failing, forcing old rivals to choose between cooperation, conquest, or collapse.

The Leyline Crisis
The world’s magic may collapse, or one power may seize control of the leylines and decide who receives energy, travel, and protection.
The Ringward Dispute
The central continent’s growth is draining resources and magic from the surrounding lands, threatening rebellion, famine, and the breakup of the trade network.
The Concord wants to keep the ring unified, preserve free movement, and place all major leyline infrastructure under shared civilian control.
The Compact wants to rebuild the ancient leyline engines through industrial expansion, regardless of ecological damage or political opposition.
The Court seeks to prevent surface powers from exploiting the world’s oceans and buried magical ruins, using control of underwater routes as leverage.
The Lantern Network wants every person connected to a shared magical communication system, believing transparency will prevent another global crisis.
Stakes The world’s magic may collapse, or one power may seize control of the leylines and decide who receives energy, travel, and protection.
Stakes The central continent’s growth is draining resources and magic from the surrounding lands, threatening rebellion, famine, and the breakup of the trade network.
The Atrix Isles formed when a vast leyline core lifted the central continent into the sky and drew ten surrounding lands into a stable ring. Early peoples learned to build cities around exposed magic and developed distinct cultures shaped by each biome.
Trade roads, skyships, underwater marbleways, rail lines, and portal stations connected the ring. Atrix became a crowded cultural center where invention and migration transformed old rivalries into uneasy cooperation.
A failed attempt to harvest the world’s deepest magic disrupted leyline currents, stranding cities and awakening ancient defenses. Several continents lost technology, while others militarized their surviving magitech.
The leylines are weakening again, causing floating land to drift, volcanoes to stir, and magical machines to fail unpredictably. Every major power claims it can save the world, but each solution would reshape the ring in its own image.
A leyline outage strands a magitech train between continents while something ancient begins moving beneath the tracks.
A missing engineer left behind evidence that the central city is secretly drawing power from every surrounding continent.
A skyship crew discovers a drifting island with a functioning city that vanished during the Blackout Years.
The first leyline anchor fails, and every major power sends agents to claim the exposed chamber before the continent falls.
A dead monarch begins speaking through public communication crystals, warning that the world’s afterlife is being used as a power source.
Atrix Isle is a damaged world-engine built to regulate the ring’s leylines.
Discovery · Every continent preserves a different fragment of the same pre-Blackout maintenance manual.
Impact · The central floating continent is not naturally buoyant, and its failure could pull the entire ring into the sea.
The old infrastructure is storing consciousness from the dead instead of allowing every soul to pass on.
Discovery · The dead sometimes repeat phrases from public broadcasts and speak in voices recorded decades ago.
Impact · The failing leyline network may be powered by trapped souls, making the coming crisis both political and morally urgent.
The Atrix Isles are only the visible portion of a larger magical machine.
Discovery · Ancient maps found in Caverna place a twelfth continent beneath the known world.
Impact · The missing continent may hold the original source of magic and a way to repair the ring, but its inhabitants may view the surface as an invading civilization.
