Detection
“At first glance, this looks like an ordinary, moss-covered stump surrounded by gnarled roots. Upon closer inspection, the bark is actually textured copper plates and the roots are articulated segments of bronze and steel.”
Standard Engagement
The trap triggers when a Medium or larger creature steps on the pressure plate disguised as a patch of soft moss within 5 feet of the stump.
None. This is a simple hazard that triggers once and remains in a locked state until reset or destroyed.
The trap must be manually rewound using a special hex-key. This process takes 1 minute of work.
When triggered, the mechanical roots snap shut. The triggering creature must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 22 (4d10) bludgeoning damage and become restrained (escape DC 15). On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not restrained.
A creature restrained by the hazard takes 5 (1d10) bludgeoning damage at the start of each of its turns as the gears tighten.
If the hazard takes 10 or more lightning damage in a single turn, its gears seize up. The trap is disabled for 1d4 rounds.
