Detection
“The trees are twisted into pained, humanoid shapes with charcoal-black needles and sap that drips like congealed blood. A thin, violet haze coats the forest floor, smelling faintly of formaldehyde.”
Standard Engagement
A living creature enters the 30-foot-square area centered on the largest gallow-pine.
The hazard takes 3 actions. Action 1: Barbed Root Strike (Melee Strike +14, Reach 15-foot, 2d8+4 bludgeoning damage plus Grab); Action 2: Life-Drain Pulse (15-foot emanation from the center, 2d6 void damage, DC 21 Fortitude save for half damage); Action 3: Tighten Grasp (Deals 1d8+4 bludgeoning damage to all creatures currently grabbed by the grove).
The hazard resets after 1 hour if no living creatures are present in its area.
The violet haze provides concealment for any creature more than 10 feet away inside the grove.
The roots make the entire area of the thicket difficult terrain for living creatures.
Creatures that are prone in the thicket take a -2 penalty to checks made to Escape from the roots.
