The Bitter Veil Blizzard
A sudden and violent blizzard that descends from high peaks, burying trails under feet of snow and freezing travelers who refuse to seek cover.

Defenses
Detection
“A thick wall of swirling white flakes and grey fog that reduces visibility to 5 feet and muffles all sound except the wind.”
Standard Engagement
The party moves through an exposed mountain pass or high-altitude plateau during a period of high pressure.
None
The storm naturally clears after 1d4 hours of intense snowfall.
Visibility is reduced to 5 feet. Any creature or object beyond this range is heavily obscured, and creatures have the blinded condition when trying to see beyond it.
Creatures caught in the storm for more than 10 minutes take 7 (2d6) cold damage and must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion.
The party can choose to find a rock overhang or build a snow wall. If they successfully build a fire and wait for 1d6 rounds (representing chunks of travel time), they avoid the need for saving throws and the effects of the blizzard while sheltered.
The party may choose to continue travel. Each creature must succeed on a DC 13 Intelligence (Nature) saving throw to stay on course and maintain their internal body heat. On a failure, the creature takes one level of exhaustion from the physical and mental toll of navigating the freezing whiteout.
