The air shimmer as if through heat haze, and the surrounding stone walls appear to bleed neon-colored nectar. Wisps of pink and violet vapor curl around the feet of anyone approaching the center of the ruin.

Standard Engagement

Trigger

A creature enters the 15-foot radius area at the heart of the ruins.

Routine

None

Reset

The hazard resets after 1 hour as the gossamer threads of the First World weave themselves back together.

Prismatic Guffaw

Reaction; When triggered, the rift explodes in a burst of discordant laughter and kaleidoscopic light. All creatures in a 15-foot burst must attempt a DC 25 Will save. On a Failure, a creature takes 4d10+12 mental damage and is Confused for 1 round. On a Critical Failure, the creature is Confused for 1 minute and takes double damage. On a Success, the creature takes half damage and is not Confused.

Lingering Mockery

The laughter echoes in the minds of those who failed the save. For 1 hour after the effect, any time a creature who failed the save rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll or skill check, they hear a cackle and become Sickened 1.

Description

In the center of these crumbling ruins, a patch of reality has become thin, anchored by a series of iridescent moss-covered stones that hum with faint, mocking laughter.

Discovery

Perception DC 27 (expert) to notice that the shadows of the ruins move independently of the light source, or Nature DC 25 to identify that the moss is growing in an impossible, non-Euclidean spiral.

Archival Lore

Long ago, this site was a summer pavilion for a banished member of the Bright Court. Though the physical structure has fallen, the fey essence remains, bored and looking for a target for its residual humor.
