Witch Reed Willow
A pale, weeping tree found in the bogs near Zenbis, guarded by a parasitic assassin vine that feeds on those who seek the tree's flexible wood. The ground is a treacherous mix of deep muck and jagged, ridged saplings that act like natural caltrops.

Detection
“The tree stands amidst the swamp fog, its bone-white reeds swaying without wind. Around the base, small, sharp saplings rise from the roots, many of which have the rotting carcasses of cranes, rats, and even small hounds impaled upon them. An unusually thick, leafy vine coiled around the trunk remains perfectly still until prey is within reach.”
Standard Engagement
A creature enters the area within 15 feet of the Witch Reed Willow.
The hazard is a simple hazard but acts as a creature-encounter. It uses its reaction to lash out when triggered, then persists as a combatant until killed.
The willow regrows the guardian vine over 1d4 months if killed, provided the roots are not salted or burned.
Trigger: A creature enters the 15-foot reach. Effect: The Assassin Vine makes a melee Strike (+14) against the triggering creature. On a hit, the target takes 2d10+7 bludgeoning damage and is Grabbed (Escape DC 21).
The 15-foot area surrounding the tree is difficult terrain for all creatures except the Assassin Vine and the Witch Reed Willow. Any creature that moves more than 5 feet through this area in a single action must succeed at a DC 19 Reflex save or take 1d6 piercing damage and 1 bleed damage from the ridged saplings.
Because the vine is wrapped around the willow, it cannot be Pushed or Pulled from its location unless the tree itself is destroyed (Hardness 5, HP 40).
