Appearance
Master Nestor Quill is a narrow, weathered man whose posture suggests a question mark forced upright by stubbornness. His skin bears the pale gray cast of someone who spends more time beneath parchment than beneath sunlight, and his fingertips are permanently darkened with blue-black ink. He moves in quick, economical bursts, sliding between desks and bodies without seeming to disturb either. His expression is mild, almost apologetic, yet his eyes track every hand near a pocket, every pause before an answer, and every document held upside down. The unexpected detail is his left arm, which is powerfully muscled from years of hauling archive chests and dragging reluctant witnesses through bureaucratic corridors.
“His voice is quiet, dry, and carefully paced, with the clipped precision of a man reading a verdict aloud. He rarely raises it.”
Alignment
Distinguishing Features
Permanent blue-black ink stains on every fingertip except the left thumb
A silver registry seal scar pressed into the inside of his right wrist
One cracked brass spectacle lens repaired with red sealing wax
A habit of carrying a quill behind his ear even while sleeping
A faint smell of vinegar, dust, lamp oil, and crushed lavender follows him
Voice
“Soft, papery, and precise, with a faint rasp from years of dust and sealing wax”
Clothing
A charcoal clerk's coat with reinforced elbows, a high-collared cream shirt, narrow gray trousers, and soft leather shoes designed for silent movement across tiled halls. He wears a red Jorthiel registry sash beneath his coat, hidden except when he needs official authority. Brass spectacles hang from a black cord, and twelve labeled pockets line his vest.
Body Language
Nestor keeps his shoulders slightly hunched, as though sheltering an invisible stack of papers. He smooths creases from documents while listening, taps his thumb against the side of his index finger when calculating, and turns his head before his eyes when someone enters a room. When angry, he stops moving entirely except for the slow tightening of his grip around his pen.
