Appearance
Master Halvek Dorn is a broad, weathered man with the compact density of an old oak stump and the careful balance of someone who has spent half a lifetime on moving wagon beds. His skin is copper-brown from forge heat and open roads, textured with fine burns that look like dark ink beneath the surface. His iron-gray hair is braided into three short cords, each tied with a different brass washer. His beard is trimmed square at the jaw but left long beneath the chin, where it has been singed into a permanent curl. He moves slowly until something threatens his shop, at which point he becomes startlingly quick, pivoting with the smooth economy of a duelist. His hands are scarred, blunt-fingered, and astonishingly gentle with frightened animals. The contradictory impression he leaves is of a man built like a siege engine who handles every finished blade as if it were a sleeping infant.
“Low, rasping, and measured, with the clipped rhythm of a craftsman counting hammer strokes. His humor arrives dry and sudden, while his rare tenderness sounds almost embarrassed.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale burn scar crosses his left cheek in the shape of a branching road.
His left index finger is a finely fitted brass prosthetic, useful for tapping metal and detecting vibrations.
One eyebrow is white from a childhood forge accident.
A tiny silver bell is sewn inside his apron and rings whenever a creature carrying a forged item from his shop enters.
His beard smells faintly of cedar smoke even after washing.
Voice
“A deep baritone roughened by smoke, with a deliberate cadence that makes even casual remarks sound like measured judgments.”
Clothing
A soot-dark leather apron over a faded blue work coat, reinforced trousers, heavy road boots, a red wool scarf, fingerless gloves, and a brass key ring worn on a chain around his neck
Body Language
Halvek stands with his shoulders squared toward danger and his feet angled toward the nearest exit. He taps two fingers against his thigh when calculating a price, rubs his left thumb over an old burn when remembering Marra, and leans close rather than raising his voice when he is angry.
