Marn Vellowsong
Hedge Medic and Rootway Guide
Marn Vellowsong
Species
Mosswhiskered
Appearance
A small, long-furred cat-folk woman with a compact frame and a spine that bends with startling, fluid flexibility. Her coat is deep russet along the back, soot-black at the paws, and cream beneath the chin, with the texture of damp velvet overlaid by carefully cultivated moss that grows in soft green islands between her shoulder blades. She moves like a falling leaf that has changed its mind, gliding sideways, folding under branches, and stopping so suddenly that her tail continues moving after the rest of her has gone still. Her face is bright and foxlike, but one ear is permanently bent from an old trap injury. The unexpected contradiction is her immaculate white whiskers, each combed straight despite the mud, leaf litter, and medicinal stains that otherwise cling to her.
“Soft and quick, with clipped sentences when suspicious and unexpectedly lyrical descriptions when discussing plants, weather, or the dead..”

Distinguishing Features
A permanently folded left ear marked by three pale scars.
A living patch of lanternmoss grows between her shoulder blades and glows faintly when danger is near.
One front tooth is silver-capped after she bit through a trap chain.
Her tail has a black tip wrapped in red thread, replaced whenever someone she loves dies.
Her whiskers are unusually long, white, and meticulously groomed.
Voice
“A low, velvety contralto with a faint rasp, as though every sentence has passed through smoke and dried leaves.”
Clothing
A patched charcoal-green wrap coat fastened with bone toggles, a weatherproof shoulder satchel, bandage rolls tied around one foreleg, and a copper charm shaped like a curled fern. Her clothing smells of rain, camphor, and woodsmoke.
Body Language
Her ears rotate independently when she listens, while her tail traces slow question marks behind her. When frightened, she becomes perfectly still rather than retreating. When lying, she carefully aligns her whiskers with both paws.
