Appearance

Mori Hoshima is a broad-shouldered human man with the weathered hands of a ferryman and the careful posture of a temple cantor. His skin is sun-browned across the nose and cheeks, but pale around the eyes where years of storm goggles protected him. His black hair is worn in a loose knot, threaded with three white cords that have faded blue at the ends. He moves with a gentle, rolling balance, as if the deck beneath him is always tilting. His smile is soft and welcoming, yet his left hand often trembles when the sky darkens. The contradiction is striking: he looks built to wrestle a mast into place, but handles cups, birds, and frightened children with almost painful delicacy.

Distinguishing Features

Three faded blue cords woven through his hair.

A crescent scar beneath his left ear, shaped like a fishhook.

His left hand trembles during thunder, though his aim never does.

Carries a tiny wooden boat carved with a child's initials.

Smells faintly of cedar smoke, salt, and crushed mint.

Voice

A calm baritone softened by years of prayer, with a rasp at the edges like wet rope pulled over wood. When grief breaks through, his voice becomes almost childlike.

Clothing

A faded indigo travel coat over layered linen robes, waterproof leather boots, a red sash filled with prayer slips, and a salt-stained shawl clasped with a copper fish.

Body Language

Mori keeps his shoulders relaxed and his palms visible, but his thumb repeatedly rubs the braided cord around his wrist whenever he hears distant thunder. In danger, his body lowers into a sailor's crouch and his gaze becomes startlingly still.
