Species

Appearance
Edris is a broad-shouldered human woman with the compact, disciplined strength of someone who has carried bodies farther than she has carried luggage. She moves with careful economy, never wasting a step, yet her hands are startlingly gentle when examining a wound. Her ceremonial armor is built in overlapping lacquered plates that resemble ribs and vertebrae, polished smooth where countless fingers have touched it. A porcelain mask covers her face, shaped like a serene human visage without a mouth. Crimson thread passes through tiny holes around its rim and continues into her vestments, as though her clothing has been sewn to her skin. Her exposed hands are webbed with branching black veins that pulse faintly when she casts a spell. The contradictory impression she leaves is of immense physical solidity paired with the quiet, almost maternal patience of a midwife.
“Low, measured, and unusually intimate, with the calm cadence of a bedside physician. She pauses before names as if weighing them.”

Distinguishing Features
A smooth porcelain mask with no mouth, cracked across the left cheek.
Branching black veins across both hands and up the neck.
Red thread visibly sewn through the edges of her armor and garments.
A missing left earlobe, replaced by a small silver ring holding a preserved tooth.
A smell of boiled herbs, hot stone, and faint iron follows her.
Her reflection sometimes appears to be wearing the mask even when she is not.
Voice
“A low contralto softened by the mask, steady as water poured into a bowl. When the Keeper Below speaks through her, her voice gains a second rhythm beneath it, slightly delayed and impossible to locate.”
Clothing
Ribbed ceremonial armor over layered umber robes, a sleeveless crimson undertunic, heavy wrapped boots, and a pale sash covered in tiny stitched names. Her mask is secured by red surgical thread rather than straps.
Body Language
Edris stands squarely with her weight balanced over both feet, like a statue designed to withstand impact. She tilts her head when listening, exposing the black veins at her throat, and touches the silver chain of her ritual knife whenever she is lying. In battle, she advances rather than retreats, but after casting a spell she briefly flexes each finger as if checking that her joints still belong to her.
