Sahra Sheshtan is a narrow-shouldered woman with a deceptively fragile posture, large amber-brown eyes, and round spectacles whose lenses are thick enough to distort the edges of her face. Her dark hair is cut bluntly at the jaw, except for one long braid threaded with copper beads and tied behind her left ear. She moves with quick, economical steps, turning her whole head before answering as if tracking a sound no one else heard. Her fingers are stained with blue-black ink, and the skin around her knuckles is rough from years of grinding crystal dust. She gives the immediate impression of a startled owl, yet her smile is unexpectedly warm and her hands are strong from hauling trunks of books across mountain roads.
