Ralku Mire-Treader
Species
Gnoll
Appearance
Ralku is a long-limbed gnoll with a weathered hyena face, a sloping back, and a deceptively graceful gait that carries him over mud without a splash. His ochre fur is darkened along the shoulders and forearms by permanent marsh damp, while pale bands around his muzzle resemble old war paint. One ear is torn nearly in half, yet he keeps a tiny blue glass bead threaded through it. His eyes are amber and watchful, but his expression often settles into something almost gentle when he listens to frogs or distant thunder. His claws are stained black from peat, and his mane has been shaved into narrow ridges like the channels of a tidal delta. The unexpected thing about him is his cleanliness. He meticulously scrubs his paws, weapons, and cooking stones every night, even when surrounded by stagnant water and corpse lilies.
“His voice is low, rough, and breathy, with clipped phrases that drag slightly at the end as if he is listening for an answer beneath the words. He speaks Common carefully, choosing concrete terms and avoiding ornate expressions.”

Distinguishing Features
A torn left ear threaded with a blue glass bead.
A mane shaved into delta-like ridges along his skull and neck.
Three pale claw scars crossing his right cheek.
Black peat stains that never fully leave his claws.
A faint scent of cedar smoke and wet stone clinging to his clothing.
Voice
“A deep, gravelly voice that carries through rain and reeds, softened by an unexpected care when he speaks to frightened travelers or wounded animals.”
Clothing
A sleeveless coat of waxed reed-fiber and dark leather hangs over layered linen wraps. He wears a hood made from stitched marsh-bird feathers, knee-high mud boots with removable soles, and a belt of bone toggles marking places where he has saved or lost someone. His bow is wrapped in oilskin, and every metal fitting has been dulled to avoid flashes in moonlight.
Body Language
Ralku keeps his shoulders low and his head slightly turned, presenting one ear while studying everything beyond the speaker. His tail remains nearly still when calm, lashes sharply when suspicious, and curls around his ankles when grief catches him off guard. He gestures with two fingers toward paths, water levels, and concealed dangers, rarely pointing with a full hand.
