Appearance
A squat, broad-shouldered figure of humanoid shape, the Warden looks as if a mountain sculptor began carving a dwarf and abandoned the work halfway through. Dark slate plates overlap its skin like rough armor, each one threaded with thin lines of blue-white light. Its left arm is swollen into a faceted mass of black stone, while its right hand remains surprisingly delicate and calloused. It moves with slow, grinding weight until the Deepstone Shard is threatened, at which point it becomes unnervingly quick, sliding across the floor with almost no sound. The unexpected detail is its face: beneath the stone crust is a soft, expressive mouth that trembles when it speaks, making the monster seem briefly frightened rather than monstrous.

Clothing
A ruined leather smith's apron hangs from its shoulders, stiffened by ash and fused at the hem with black glass. Copper rune-tags are tied around its waist with a fraying red cord. One small woolen mitten, preserved from its former life, is tucked beneath the apron strap.
Body Language
The Warden keeps its stone shoulder between intruders and the Deepstone Shard. It tilts its head toward sounds like a wary animal, presses its delicate hand against its chest when remembering the past, and clenches its mineralized fist whenever anyone mentions the old forge masters.
