Hurn-Val, the Shardbound Treant
Corrupted Grove Guardian
Hurn-Val, the Shardbound Treant
Species
Treant
Appearance
A towering, hunched treant with bark like wet charcoal and pale fungal veins glowing beneath its ridges. Its limbs bend at subtly wrong angles, as if assembled from several different trees. A jagged violet crystal protrudes from the center of its chest, surrounded by old axe scars that have grown into ring-shaped knots. Moss hangs from its shoulders like a scholar's mantle, yet tiny white flowers bloom from its antler-like crown, giving the creature an unexpectedly gentle silhouette. It moves with a slow, creaking dignity until angered, when its roots snap forward with the suddenness of a striking serpent.
“A deep, creaking voice layered with distant wind, root pops, and occasional echoes of Nessa's softer tone.”

Distinguishing Features
A violet crystal embedded in its chest, pulsing like a second heart
White flowers blooming from its crown despite the grove's corruption
A hollow in its left shoulder containing a child's wooden whistle
One root-foot wrapped in an old red scarf
Bark scars shaped like tear tracks beneath both eye sockets
Voice
“Low, wet, and resonant, like a hollow tree speaking during a storm; when grief breaks through, the voice briefly becomes gentle and human”
Clothing
A mantle of black moss, old prayer ribbons, rotting trail markers, and strips of faded green cloth left by travelers it once guided
Body Language
The treant leans forward as though listening to the ground rather than the speaker. Its branches curl protectively around small creatures, but recoil sharply from anyone who touches its crystal. When uncertain, it presses one root into the soil and remains motionless for several seconds.
