Raina Gale
Witness and Stormwise Scout
Raina Gale
Species
Human
Appearance
Raina looks like a storm cloud that learned to walk upright. Her skin is warm copper marked by thin pale scars that branch across her shoulders like lightning seen through fog. Her hair is black at the roots but fades to silver at the ends, each strand perpetually lifting as though underwater. One side is shaved and tattooed with tiny navigational stars, while the longer side is braided with blue thread, fish bones, and fragments of broken signal flags. Her amber eyes rarely settle on a face. They track ropes, gulls, loose shutters, and the invisible movement of air. She moves with a rolling sailor's gait even on solid ground, yet her hands remain astonishingly still. The unexpected contradiction is her smile, which is gentle, almost shy, and completely at odds with the severe weather scars and watchful intensity that make strangers expect a hardened cynic.
“Low, quick, and precise, with the clipped rhythm of someone accustomed to being heard over wind. Her voice softens when speaking to frightened people and becomes almost unnervingly calm when danger is close.”

Distinguishing Features
Lightning-shaped scars across her shoulders and collarbone.
A left ear fitted with a tiny copper funnel that amplifies distant whistles.
A silver tooth engraved with a single navigational star.
A tattooed constellation on the shaved side of her head.
Her hair and loose clothing stir in still air when storms are nearby.
Voice
“A low, weathered contralto with a faint rasp, as if every sentence has passed through salt air. She speaks rapidly when excited, but during danger her words slow into unnerving clarity.”
Clothing
A patched slate-gray navigator's coat with an oversized collar, a faded saffron scarf tied in a sailor's knot, fitted trousers reinforced at the knees, soft deck boots, and a belt crowded with chalk, cord, signal mirrors, and tiny brass instruments.
Body Language
Raina leans slightly into the wind even when there is none. She keeps one hand near her storm compass and angles her head toward distant sounds. When lying, she becomes perfectly motionless. When frightened, she smiles warmly and begins counting under her breath.
