Appearance
Nella is a narrow-shouldered human woman with a weathered face, quick hands, and the restless posture of someone who has spent years expecting trouble around the next corner. Her skin is wind-chapped across the cheeks and nose, while the backs of her hands are marked by tiny white scars from parcels, buckles, and frozen reins. She moves with economical speed, never quite standing still, yet when frightened she becomes unnervingly motionless, like a bird pretending to be a stone. Her most memorable feature is the contradiction between her exhausted appearance and her immaculate fingernails, which she scrubs obsessively after every delivery.
