Each note became a god, and each god became a way for mortals to survive the vast distance between birth and ending. The faithful say the gods have always existed far off at the edge of hearing, and that mortals merely learned enough music to answer them.

Reality is imagined as a vast, distant instrument called the Far Key, whose seven primary notes sustain the world from beyond the horizon. Each deity embodies one note and one way of hearing it: law, grace, pulse, wildness, memory, hush, and ending. Between those notes lie the mortal world, where every prayer is a small attempt to tune the cosmos without breaking it.

A loose celestial choir of seven powers arranged as a scale rather than a court. Aurelian Coda and Seraphae anchor the upper harmony, Cadence and Veyl provide the middle motion, Timbrel and Nocturne create bright tension and dark contrast, and Hollowrest closes the progression. No single deity rules the others, though Aurelian Coda is treated as first among equals in formal liturgy.

Most mortal faiths treat the pantheon as a distant but practical choir: Aurelian Coda for law, Seraphae for healing, Cadence for rituals and timing, Veyl for travel and change, Timbrel for celebration, Nocturne for secrets, and Hollowrest for death. Temples are usually separated by function, but larger sanctuaries place all seven shrines around a central silent nave so worshippers can hear the distance between the notes.

The faithful do not descend to a single hall but are gathered into the Resonant Distance, a far-off afterworld where every soul becomes a held note. The righteous are carried upward into clear harmonies near Aurelian Coda and Seraphae, while the conflicted drift through echoing galleries where Veyl, Nocturne, and Hollowrest test what kind of music their lives made. The dead are remembered only as long as their names can still be sung.
