The pantheon is said to have formed when three ancient ooze-thoughts condensed around the first echo of a dying star, each taking a different answer to the question of whether the cosmos should endure, harden, or be eaten.

In the beginning there was only a drifting amnion of primal ooze, thinking in tides. From it emerged three divine condensations: Vey, who remembers shape; Brann, who gives shape weight; and Ashen Many-Tongue, who removes shape when its age is ripe. Stars are described as bubbles in the divine slime, continents as crusted scabs on a living dark. The cosmos is not made to last forever; it is meant to be tended, tasted, and eventually swallowed back into the First Mire, after which the cycle begins again at a distance no mortal can measure.

A triadic faith with local temples arranged around three roles: the basin, the pillar, and the mouth. Shrines often feature a still pool for Vey, a load-bearing stone or arch for Brann, and a small sacrificial fire or pit for Ashen Many-Tongue. Most communities honor all three, but choose one as patron according to need.

Most mortals know the pantheon only through ruin-haunted shrines, drowned chapels, and mason-guild rites. Vey is prayed to for memory and funerals, Brann for construction and vows, and Ashen Many-Tongue for endings, omens, and necessary severance. The faith is distant rather than intimate: the gods are felt in tides, cracked foundations, and the final silence after a fire has gone out.

The dead do not go to a warm realm but are slowly worked back into the First Mire, a far-off black basin beyond the stars where memories sink like silt. Souls judged faithful may linger as pale bubbles in the muck until they burst into new forms, while the faithless are dissolved and forgotten, their names rubbed smooth by the patient hunger that also watches over Silt-Mother Vey and Hollow King Brann.
